Light and Heat: The Puritan View of the Pulpit
Bickel, Dr R. Bruce
This is Dr. Bickel’s  combined master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation on “The Puritan View of the Pulpit” and “The Focus of the Gospel in Puritan Preaching.” The Puritans were indeed physicians of the soul, and the entire scope of their ministry was an outgrowth of how they saw themselves as preachers of the Word. The second part of this book is a careful examination of the gospel the Puritans preached—a God-centered message as opposed to today’s Finney-dominated man-centered message. This book will make a welcome addition to our Puritanism section, books about the Puritans, but will also provide great profit to preachers and lay people alike.  P/B, 180 pages

The Worship of the American Puritans (1629-1730)
Davies, Horton

Topics covered include the theology of worship, sermons, music in worship, prayers, the sacraments, and several others. Quotes from many scarce Puritan works are given as part of the text.  P/B, 327 pages.

The Grace of Law: A Study in Puritan Theology
Kevan, Ernest
Dr. Kevan was principal of the London Bible College until his death in 1965. This book, last reprinted by Baker Book House in 1976, has chapters on the law of God for man, the law and sin, the place of law in the purpose of God, the continuance of moral obligation, Christian law-keeping, and several others, including a chapter on Christian freedom. This book has much to add to the current controversy over Lordship salvation, as Kevan proves that God's law and God's grace are not enemies, but rather allies in bringing men to repentance and faith and in leading them towards perfection in Christ. The Grace of Law is an excellent theological introduction to the Puritans.  P/B, 294 pages.

Why Read the Puritans Today?
Kistler, Don
What can you gain from reading men who have been dead for three centuries? In this booklet, Don Kistler (founder and president of Soli Deo Gloria) demonstrates that an abundance of good for the soul is to be had from the Puritans. This is an excellent introduction to give to someone who has never read the Puritans, or has bought into the caricature of them given by our secular society and revisionists of history. Booklet, 24 pages.
