The great Synod of Dordrecht (1618-1619) resolved the Arminian controversy that raged in the Dutch Reformed churches at the end of the 16th century. The Canons of Dordrecht are the articles drawn up by the synod setting forth and defending the doctrines of sovereign grace over against the Arminian heresy of free will.
The Voice of Our Fathers is the only extensive English commentary on this historic Reformed confession. An invaluable feature of the book is its introduction, which acquaints the reader with the history and intrigue surrounding the Synod of Dordt. The author treats each article concisely, yet thoroughly, and in an interesting way. He corrects some errors made when the Canons were translated from Latin into English. He also points out the omission of an important line at the end of Canon III/V2 in that earlier translation. In a day when the truths defended in the Canons are being challenged in Reformed circles, this book will be a great service to any who are concerned to preserve the truths of sovereign grace by establishing them more firmly in the faith.
