Catechism in
Conversation
144pp;
by Linus Chua
There was a
time when the Westminster Shorter Catechism was well-known
and highly regarded in Presbyterian Churches and even
in Calvinistic Baptist Churches. Today, it is generally
not so. In fact, a few years ago, a pastor of a conservative
Presbyterian church, who saw me reading the Catechism,
was so intrigued by it that he asked me where he could
get a copy! In all his years of ministry, he had apparently
only read about it in church history textbooks. I hold
nothing against this pastor, but I was not only amazed
but also saddened that the church should have allowed
this diamond of a tool for Christian education to slip
into oblivion while eagerly gorging the trashy Sunday
School materials that are being pandered everywhere.

CHOSEN BY GOD
Know God’s Perfect Plan for His Glory & His
Children
213pbk, by R C Sproul
“Predestination, says the author, isn’t just
for Calvinists. It is for all biblical Christians. Predestination
doesn’t create a whimsical or spiteful picture
of God, but paints the portrait of a loving God who provides
redemption for radically corrupt humans. There is mystery
in God’s ways, but not contradiction. Point by
point, the author examines the Scriptures on predestination
and refutes the naysayers. We choose God because he has
opened our eyes to see his beauty. We love him because
he first loved us.” – [From the blurb] List Price: US$12.99; Our

“DON’T
MAKE ME COUNT TO THREE!”
A Mom’s Look at
Heart-Oriented Discipline
155pbk, by Ginger Plowman
“Do you find yourself threatening, repeating your
instructions, or raising your voice in an attempt to
get your children to obey? Are you discouraged because
it seems you just can't reach the heart of your child?
Through personal experience and the practical application
of Scripture, Ginger Plowman encourages and equips moms
to reach past the outward behavior of their children
and dive deeply into the issues of the heart. With wit
and tact Ginger steers mothers away from the “survival
mode” that is so easy to fall into and reminds
them of the great calling they have. “Don’t
Make Me Count to Three!” is full of practical advice
and biblical encouragement to do more than just survive
another day with the kids.” – [From the publisher’s

New
Christians Start Here (+CD)
The Basic Truths for the New Believer
104pbk, by Peter Jeffery
“If we do not have a clear biblical
understanding of what happened when we were converted
we will be forever struggling in our spiritual life.
A sinner can be saved without a full understanding
of salvation. This is because God is sovereign in salvation,
he can and often does, overrule our deficient understanding.
With a basic conviction of personal sin and guilt,
and the faith that Jesus is the only saviour, a sinner
can be delivered from that sin and given new life in
Christ. But to grow in his faith he needs more than
this. He needs to know what he now is in Christ and
what he is capable of doing.”

OUT OF THE BLUES
Dealing
with the Blues of Depression & Loneliness
144pbk, by Wayne Mack “Depression has been called the common cold of
mental ailments. This book addresses a problem that nearly
everyone faces at some time in their lives. If you are
not living with depression now, you know someone who
is. Since it is so common, it is important to know how
to deal with it as God intended. Seeking God’s
wisdom for life’s problems means searching for
it in Scripture. Out of the Blues presents a distinctly
biblical perspective that will accurately (1) Define
and describe depression; (2) Describe the dynamics of
depression and how it develops; (3) Present a biblical
solution to the problem; (4) Outline causes and solutions
to the blues caused by loneliness. The Q and A section
about depression and loneliness, as well as additional
notes for the counselor, make this a great resource for
anyone seeking to help or be helped in fighting this
dark enemy.” – [From the blurb]

POLISHING
GOD’S MONUMENTS
Pillars of Hope for Punishing Times
296pbk, by Jim Andrews
“As I closed the cover on this book, 294 pages (yet
only one day) after beginning, it struck me that this is
undoubtedly one of the best books I've read so far this
year. I skimmed back through my files to see how many other
books I've read in 2007 and can see that it is at least
sixty or seventy. So it's no small thing to realize that
this is one of the best. I simply can't recommend Polishing
God's Monuments too highly. I wholeheartedly agree with
Bruce Ware who writes, ‘To enter into this theological
reflection on suffering is to accept the challenge to grow
deeply in Christ, and to cherish the sure and certain promise
of the gospel." This book gripped my heart and helped
me cherish the promises of the gospel like few books I've
read recently. I commend it to you, trusting you will benefit
from it as I have. Perhaps the greatest tribute I can render
Polishing God's Monuments is this: I read almost 300 pages
about suffering and pain, yet closed the book with tears
of joy in my eyes, rejoicing at the greatness of our sovereign
and gracious God. – Tim Challies” – [From

TULIP, The
Understanding the Doctrines of Grace
88pp, pbk, by Cheah Fook Meng
The acronym TULIP embodies the core teachings of the Reformed
faith known as the Five Points of Calvinism..... Cheah Fook
Meng's pointed treatment of the subject will assure you that
the teachings of the Reformed faith are highly relevant to
beginners who are naive about the implications of the faith
and knowledgeable Calvinists alike. The book answers many
questions about the Bible and what it teaches about God's
power to save the lost sinner. Armed with such a book, we
can have the courage to share and talk about our faith with
others. In making the Reformed faith simple and concise,
Cheah Fook Meng also stoutly affirms the sovereignty and

Sickness
24pbk, by J C Ryle
“Sickness affects everyone personally
at some time. In this powerful yet comforting Christian
perspective, the 19th-century Bishop of Liverpool, J.C.
Ryle, offers some timely biblical wisdom about this universal
human problem. This work has been edited in such a way
as to retain Ryle's writing style, but some of the language
has been updated and simplified so as to make it easier
for the modern reader.” – [From the publisher’s

Ultimate
Questions
32pp, pbk, by John Blanchard
Health, finance, family, the future -- life
is full of questions. There are deeper questions, too. Who
am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? Does life have any
purpose? But the ultimate questions are about God. Does He
exist? What is He like? Can I know Him and experience His
power in my life? And if so, how? This booklet tackles these
vital questions head-on -- and answers them simply, clearly
and directly. Read it carefully. It could change your life
-- for ever.
